Ages 10 – 17

The Performance Squad is designed for players with elite-level ambitions, focusing on achieving success at national and international level. This squad brings together Essex’s most dedicated and driven athletes, offering a high-intensity environment that mirrors the demands of top-level competition. Players in this squad are expected to show full commitment to their training and competitive schedule, working towards excellence in regional and national level.

Players are challenged both technically and physically, with sessions incorporating structured on-court drills, match-play scenarios, and targeted fitness training to build strength, speed, and endurance. Every session is designed to push players to their limits, developing not only their badminton performance but also their mindset, discipline, and resilience.

Monthly Instalment: £120.00 (paid via Direct Debit, minimum 2 sessions required*)

Performance Squad Criteria 

Minimum Attendance:
players in the Performance Squad must maintain a minimum of 2 sessions per week. Consistent attendance is crucial for achieving elite performance and staying on track with the squad’s objectives.

Minimum Qualification:
To join the Performance Squad, players must be registered to Badminton England and eligible to compete on the national badminton circuit.

Required Equipment:

o   EBA Training shirt, 2 rackets and badminton specific footwear are necessary for all sessions to support technical work, strength training, and core development.

o   A skipping rope is mandatory to help players develop strength, timing and fitness.

o   Players must also bring either two 500ml water bottles or the EBA 1L bottle to each session to maintain proper hydration during training.

Performance Squad Aims and Aspirations

The Performance Squad is designed for players aiming to excel at the highest levels of competitive Badminton. The key aims and aspirations include:

·       National Level Achievements:
Players are expected to compete and excel at several Regional Tournaments, with aspirations of progressing up the competition Tiers, become medallists, champions, and even compete at the nationals.

·       England Talent Programme:
High-performing players are encouraged to aim for selection in the prestigious England junior squad, providing a pathway to higher competitive success.

Competitions (Minimum Requirement)

Players in the Performance Squad must participate in at least 5 competitions per season. These must include the following key events:

·       Minimum 4 Local/Regional U11-U19 events (Bronze-Gold)

·       Essex County junior Restricted U11-19

·       National Championships (If accepted*)

Regular competition participation is essential for maintaining performance levels and tracking progress throughout the season.

Progression Path

players who meet the squad’s high standards will continue to progress towards elite-level competitions, including national and international events. However, players who do not meet the minimum attendance or competition participation standards will be reassigned to Junior programme.

Whats included? 

As part of the Performance Squad, all players receive official EBA 1L bottle, EBA training & tournament kit on an annual basis, ensuring a professional and unified squad identity.

Membership also includes free access to the mandatory Junior Games Session held every Wednesday, providing players with valuable match-play experience and the opportunity to apply technical and tactical skills in a competitive setting.
